Set up ASMTP in Thunderbird

The settings you will need

UsernameThe login name from your ASMTP customer area (it looks like abc123-1)
PasswordThe password shown when the login was created. It is not your website password.
Incoming mailLeave as it is. ASMTP only handles outgoing mail.

If your provider blocks port 587 as well as 25, try 465, then 2525.

  1. Open Thunderbird. Click the menu button, then Account Settings.
  2. In the left-hand list, scroll to the bottom and click "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
  3. Click Add.
  4. Enter:
    • Description: ASMTP
    • Server Name: smtp.asmtp.com
    • Port: 587
    • Connection security: STARTTLS
    • Authentication method: Normal password
    • User Name: your ASMTP username
  5. Click OK.
  6. Now click the account you want to send through ASMTP (its name at the top of the left-hand list). At the bottom of that page, change "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" to ASMTP.
  7. Send yourself a test message. Thunderbird will ask for the ASMTP password the first time and offer to remember it.

Trouble?

  • Connection refused: try port 465 with connection security SSL/TLS.
  • Login failed: check the username is the short login name and the password is the one shown when the login was created.
