Set up ASMTP in Apple Mail

The settings you will need

UsernameThe login name from your ASMTP customer area (it looks like abc123-1)
PasswordThe password shown when the login was created. It is not your website password.
Incoming mailLeave as it is. ASMTP only handles outgoing mail.

If your provider blocks port 587 as well as 25, try 465, then 2525.

  1. Open Mail. In the menu bar click Mail, then Settings (or Preferences), then Accounts.
  2. Select the account you want to send through ASMTP and click the Server Settings tab.
  3. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), click the Account drop-down and choose "Edit SMTP Server List".
  4. Click the plus sign to add a server. Give it the description ASMTP.
  5. On the Server Settings tab for the new server, enter:
    • Host name: smtp.asmtp.com
    • Untick "Automatically manage connection settings"
    • Port: 587, with "Use TLS/SSL" ticked
    • Authentication: Password
    • User name: your ASMTP username
    • Password: your ASMTP password
  6. Click OK. Back on the Server Settings tab, make sure the Outgoing Mail Account is now ASMTP.
  7. Send yourself a test message.

Tip: if you have several email accounts, repeat step 6 for each one you want to send through ASMTP. They can all share the one ASMTP server entry.

Trouble?

  • Mail says the server is offline: try port 465 with "Use TLS/SSL" ticked.
  • Mail keeps asking for the password: the username is the short login name, not your email address.
